Las Nubes, (the clouds) is the artist's first solo-show, and consists of a series of both small (8 x 8 inches) and large (48 x 48 inches) paintings. These paintings are elusive both in content and process. Using a technique (poured acrylic) that is simple but difficult to control to create minimalist compositions of saturated color seems a contradiction yet this work evokes a quiet dignity. Obvious references to landscape are blurred by hazy layers of color however it is clear the work is rooted in the natural world.
Mr Cannon was born in Kansas but grew up primarily in Peru and Argentina with brief stops in Venezuela and
Mexico. He returned to the United States to study at the Rhode Island School of Design where he received his BFA in painting. He completed his MFA at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2010.
His work has been part of several group exhibitions in San Francisco including the Luggage Store in 2009.
He lives with his wife and daughter in Martinez, Calif.
