Marsha McDonald

Born: 1958 Columbus, Ohio
Lives and works in Portugal

My paintings are intimate explorations of the landscape, the “spiritual interferences” that surround actual places, and the kinds of light resonances these places inspire in me. I continue to explore light as both phenomenon and metaphor. I am interested in 19th and 20th century spirit photography of Europe and America, not as supernatural documents, but as curiously intriguing objects of the cultural desire for numinous, enigmatic experiences. I am also deeply influenced by the writings of Emerson, Muir and modern poetry.
